Many know Minnesota as the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Here, you’ll find people out on the water boating, paddleboarding, and swimming. Even the cold winter months don’t keep Minnesotans away from lakes, from hockey to ice-fishing. For those who love fishing no matter the weather, we’ve highlighted five picturesque lakes in Eagan to cast a line.
Blackhawk Lake
Head on over to Blackhawk Lake to reel in (and release) bluegills, crappies, largemouth bass, northern pike, and small walleye. You can fish from the pier, canoe launches, and off the scenic bridge on the South shore or the fishing dock on the northeast end. Seasonal restrooms are available in the pavilion. Plus, there are hiking trails and a playground nearby for kiddos to enjoy before or after a day well spent on Blackhawk Lake.
Fish Lake
With “fish” in the name, you know you’re in for a great day out on the water. Northern pike are plentiful at Fish Lake, but you might be able to bring up some bluegills, channel catfish, crappies, largemouth bass, bullheads, sunfish, and walleye too. You can fish from the pier on the peninsula, on the shore near the boat launch, or drive in your own boat (electric motors only) from the parking lot.
Holland Lake
Located within the stunning Lebanon Hills Regional Park, Holland Lake has among the best water quality in the Twin Cities metro area. There’s good transparency most of summer, allowing you to see large bluegills, crappies, largemouth bass, rainbow and brown trout…if they aren’t hiding under a submerged plant bed in the bays. Given its proximity to Lebanon Hills Regional Park, there are hiking trails and picnic areas nearby. For winter months, Holland Lake is the only fishing lake in Eagan that allows overnight ice houses.
LeMay Lake
LeMay Lake, located within Moonshine Park, is the perfect backdrop for a day with the family. Bring the kids and cast a line on the southwest shore near the point or the southern shore near the park. After catching and releasing your fill of large bluegills, crappies, largemouth bass, bullheads, and small sunfish, you can head into the park for a picnic, birdwatching, or enjoy a bonfire along the shore.
Thomas Lake
Surrounded by trails and parkland on the northern end, Thomas Lake makes for an easy, serene day of fishing. With fishing locations on the north shore, near the pavilion, and the pier on the east shore, you’ll find large bluegills, crappies, largemouth bass, bullheads, and small sunfish. Seasonal bathrooms are available in the pavilion with a small play area nearby, so you can truly make a full day of it with the whole family on Thomas Lake.
